Wat Rajamontean

Wat Rajamontean, located directly across the northern moat from Wat Lok Molee, is instantly recognizable for its towering, majestic giant seated Buddha statue that overlooks the main road. Dating originally back to the early 15th century under the Lanna Kingdom, the temple features a unique multi-level viharn built in a striking maroon and gold color scheme, adorned with highly detailed stuccowork and dragon motifs. Because of its elevated structure and prominent white-and-gold Buddha image, it serves as a highly photogenic landmark that beautifully showcases classic Northern Thai craftsmanship while remaining easily accessible to travelers exploring the edge of the historic old city.
